A large crowd of FAMU members and friends celebrate FAMU Homecoming 2024. But with a week of events comes many precautions and precautions to keep you safe. I’m Kenya Cardonne from FAMU, talking to students and law enforcement about what we can expect.

As Homecoming 2024 officially begins, the highest of the seven hills shines brighter than ever.

It’s a week known for bringing students and alumni together and showing freshmen like Evan and Calvin what Rattler pride is all about.

Calvin Lindsay, FAMU Freshman – “I can’t wait for the graduation concert. I’m ready to hear Veeze because he’s one of my favorite artists.”

Miryah Fields, FAMU Freshman – “I’m excited to see the Marching 100. They’ll be cut as always. I’ve watched so many videos.”

Freshman Miryah Fields says she hopes her first Homecoming will live up to the excitement, but there’s one thing she’s already sure of:

Fields – “I expect the place to be full.”

A full campus requires extra staff on deck.

Audrey Alexander, FAMU Police Chief – “Safety is a top priority.”

I spoke with FAMU Police Chief Audrey Alexander. He says there are a few things neighbors and visitors should keep in mind.

Alexander – “Arrive early. Give yourself enough time to get through all checkpoints and any other security measures we have in place.”

Here are the precautions he mentioned:

• Increased law enforcement presence of FAMU Police Department, Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County Sheriff’s Office
• Metal detectors at all events
• Assistance from security companies that will have access to campus security cameras and license plate readers

Depending on each day’s events, neighbors may be on MLK Blvd, Althea Gibson Way and Okaloosa St. They can expect traffic enforcement and impacts on streets such as.

Fields – “I think I feel good or kind of safe knowing that they are really trying.”

Fields says he’s confident that with these precautions in place and his own precautions, everyone will have a good time safely.

Fields: “Because there’s going to be a lot of people, and a lot of people I know feel the exact same way I do. They’re going to be excited, and so there’s going to be a lot of excited people just bringing out good vibes.”

One last thing to note is that a clear bag policy will be enforced at all events held at Bragg Memorial Stadium and Al Lawson Center. Baby strollers and umbrellas will not be allowed in these two areas.
