Central Catholic High School receives $1 million gift to expand mental health and wellness counseling

BLOOMINGTON (25News Now) – Bloomington Central Catholic High School is receiving a $1 million gift that will allow the school to hire a wellness counselor for its students.

The donation comes from founder Jan Egbers. Commercial Packagingand founder Jim Bob Morris Morris Packagingboth from Bloomington. They are also the parents of Central Catholic graduates.

The Egbers-Morris Wellness Advisor position will focus specifically on the mental health and wellness needs of students, according to a news release.

“Central Catholic’s mission stems from the full development of the human person, ensuring the formation of mind, body and spirit,” Central Catholic President Sean Foster said in a statement. he said.

“The generosity of the Egbers and Morris families is a legacy gift that will have a significant impact on the student experience at Central Catholic and will also be passed down for generations,” Foster said.

The school released the following statement from Egbers:

“Central Catholic has been and continues to be an important asset to our Bloomington-Normal community. Our family is proud to assist in its growth and prosperity. Central Catholic is uniquely positioned as the only Catholic high school in McLean County and has provided an outstanding education and opportunities for my children and grandchildren. “The Egbers/Morris family hopes that this gift can help advance Central Catholic’s mission and meet the mental health and wellness needs of all students.”

“We are honored to make this gift to Central Catholic. Our family saw the complex need to provide this type of support, which requires more specialized and long-term care. “This gives us the opportunity to partner with other organizations in our region to provide a more cohesive approach to student mental health.”

Contribution is made Central Catholic’s VISION Campaign Increasing the school’s endowment to increase teachers’ salaries and tuition assistance to students.

Egbers and Morris’ gift means the campaign is $1 million closer to its $10 million goal.
