Three-time F1 champion Max Verstappen finds himself grappling with significant issues at the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver has since expressed concerns about his car’s speed.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after the race, where he was given a 20-second penalty, he said:

“The problem is, when you slow down, you get into these kinds of positions. I’m not going to give up easily.”

“At the end of the day it’s not about whether you agree with the penalties or not – it’s just that 20 seconds is a lot – but the big issue today and the thing I’m worried about is the race pace. It really wasn’t like that.” This is good and something we need to analyze. “Even without these penalties, we had no chance of fighting at the front.”

Carlos Sainz, driving for Ferrari, took advantage of these difficulties to capture victory, while McLaren’s Lando Norris and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the podium positions. Verstappen nevertheless remained optimistic about the title race. He added:

“(I’m not worried about the championship.) This was a really bad race for us, but I know we can do much better than this, so we’ll continue.”

Red Bull team chief Christian Horner also commented On the race and Verstappen’s penalties:

“Max went off the track at turn four and at turn seven Lando opened the door too late and they both ran away.

“The question is, I think we’re going to get into very dangerous territory, at what point is a dive bomb going to work?

“I really think the FIA ​​and the drivers need to sit down and decide what is acceptable and what is not. I thought the two 10-second penalties today were a bit harsh.”

“You always have to play by the rules. We will look at this race and learn from it, but the main thing for us today was that we lacked pace. That will be our focus in the next five days.” “
