Instant recap of Penn State football’s comeback win at Wisconsin

play

Penn State football went undefeated through its most critical test yet, and it did so on the road against Wisconsin without several key players.

There was nothing bigger We’re losing starting quarterback Drew Allar He suffered a knee injury just before half-time and once again had to go into the break.

Still number 3 Nittany Lions remained undefeated (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) 28-13 comeback victory In a game where they wore down Wisconsin badgers There’s brute strength and depth on both sides of the ball.

The Lions rallied in the always dominant third quarter, first by getting an acceleration interception return for a touchdown by safety Jaylen Reed and then by an impressive performance from backup QB Beau Pribula.

Central York High School star Allar and Pribula combined to go 25-for-31 passing for 246 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Penn State safety Zakee Wheatley led his defense with 10 tackles; This was a unit that limited Wisconsin to 81 rushing yards and just one field goal attempt after halftime.

This also forced Badger quarterback Braedyn Locke into an occasional night, never allowing him to settle in and lead his team to a fourth straight victory.

Penn State played the entire second half without injury star defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton and without interception towards Anthony Donkoh for most of the night.

Will Allar and others be back as starters for next Saturday’s matchup against Ohio State?

This will be one of the biggest stories of the week for the best matchup of the week in college football.

Penn State football vs. Wisconsin score updates

The Nittany Lions managed to stay 10 yards out of the end zone on this play, ending Wisconsin’s final drive.

The fourth stop, from safety Zakee Wheatley, ended the Badgers’ hopes. Penn State took possession and won the game 28-13.

Great talk from coordinator Andy Kotelnicki.

Kaytron Allen took a direct hit on first down and cut to left as quarterback Beau Pribula went right. Allen raced through great blocks, including center Nick Dawkins, and raced into the end zone virtually untouched for the killer score.

Allen’s 24-yard TD run gave him 64 points on nine carries on the night.

The Lions lead 28-13 with less than three minutes left in the game.

Central York’s Bea Pribula had just led a breathing touchdown to spark a sluggish Penn State offense.

Pribula mixed his runs and passes quickly and effectively in the second half in relief of Drew Allar.

He found Khalil Dinkins with a 2-yard touchdown pass to take a 21-13 lead with 12 minutes left in the game.

Penn State’s offense was stagnated by Drew Allar’s injury late in the second quarter.

But a resurgent Nittany Lion defense is doing its best to save it tonight at Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium.

As the Lions got a run on the Badgers’ running game (71 yards), safety and team leader Jaylen Reed made the play that would give them a stunning lead.

Reed intercepted quarterback Braedyn Locke midway through the third quarter and returned it 19 yards for the go-ahead score.

The defense then went tough at the end of the next drive, forcing a mid-range field goal.

The Lions led 14-13 with just over two minutes left in the third quarter.

The Lions started strong on both sides of the ball tonight but costly mistakes kept them from opening up that deficit.

Wisconsin took advantage, gaining strength on defense and opting to stay late on offense.

And so the Lions fell behind once again at halftime (10-7). Like they did at USC two weeks ago. Like they did against Bowling Green at home.

Can they bounce back strongly in the third quarter, their best time so far this fall?

To watch: Injury at the end of the first half scares defender Dani Dennis-Sutton and Allar, who limps slightly off the field after the final kick of the second quarter.

The Nittany Lions appeared to have stopped Wisconsin on third-and-goal.

However, they were marked because there were too many men on the field.

The Badgers got a second chance and cashed in on the shorthanded play.

They were ahead 10-7 with 1:23 left in the first half.

Perhaps it was best that Drew Allar finished the night 10th.

Allar starts the night with 11 of 10 passes; The last one is a perfect pass to Nick Singleton from 6 yards out. As PSU’s tail fell to the ground, he pulled it in with his right hand.

The Lions take their first lead.

Just when the Nittany Lions looked ready to make an early statement, they messed up.

First, the defense faltered when cornerback Jalen Kimber made a clean tackle run to punter Atticus Bertrams. Bertrams caught the ball and ran for a first down, which set up a 50-yard opening kick.

Shortly after, the Lions were heading into the end zone when Julian Fleming threw an easy, wide pass. This led to a fumble on fourth down, where a failed carry was blocked by a QB sneak.

Still 3-0 Wisconsin in the later stages of the opening quarter.

The Penn State defense twice left Wisconsin in space on its first offensive possession.

Both times the Badgers escaped.

And they connected on a long field goal for the early lead at Camp Randall.

The Nittany Lions will miss another run tonight in Madison.

Promising freshman Quinton Martin, ranked No. 3 behind starters Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen, was listed as “out” on the Big Ten pregame availability report. The Lions have been without senior backup Cam Wallace for the last few games due to an undisclosed long-term injury, according to coach James Franklin.

Martin was the only notable addition to Penn State’s report this week. No Lions were listed as “suspicious” tonight.
