National law enforcement group names two sheriff’s deputies as officers of the month – Macomb Daily

Two Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies were honored for their roles in the dramatic rescue effort involving a driver who suffered a medical emergency.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) said deputies Nicole Miron and Anthony Gross have been named the organization’s September 2024 Officers of the Month.

The duo was singled out for their actions when they performed a life-saving action on a busy section of Gratiot Boulevard to assist a motorist experiencing a medical emergency.

“These officers are heroes who quickly stood up on their own to help someone in need and risked their own safety to perform an act of heroism that we are proud to recognize,” said William Alexander, CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. .

The organization, headquartered in Washington, D.C., commemorates the 23,785 U.S. law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

On Sept. 12, Miron and Gross were on patrol when they reported a GMC Sierra truck was driving erratically on Gratiot and the driver appeared dazed.

Gross was able to pull his cruiser over to the other driver, while Miron climbed from the cruiser into the other driver’s vehicle through the open driver’s window and brought the vehicle to a safe stop.

Deputies then provided medical attention to the 63-year-old driver.

The deputies’ patrol car cameras and overhead traffic cameras captured this daring act on video.

The Officer of the Month Awards Program is sponsored by the Police Troop Tour and recognizes federal, state and local officers who distinguish themselves through exemplary law enforcement service and devotion to duty.
