MONTGOMERY, Ala.(WSFA) – A fatal shooting in Montgomery is under investigation.

Police responded to a shooting call in the 1000 block of Mill Street around 6:40 p.m. Saturday. Police reported that a person was found at the scene with a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police identified the victim as 34-year-old Marquaries Williams of Montgomery. Williams was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

The Montgomery Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. No other details were released.

Police ask anyone with information about this investigation to contact CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP, Secret Witness at 625-4000 or MPD at 625-2831.

There have been 50 homicides in the city and 30 arrests in 2024, an MPD spokesman said Friday.

Williams’ death on Saturday was the 51st homicide.
