The San Francisco 49ers will be without Brandon Aiyuk for the rest of the season due to torn ACL and MCL, but that doesn’t mean they’ll trade for a wide receiver before Nov. 5.

“I’m not so sure they’re making a trade,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Sunday. “Yes, of course they will. The 49ers really like the receivers they have on their roster.”

Health concerns have been a major theme for the position and offense as a whole in San Francisco.

In addition to Aiyuk’s defeat, Deebo Samuel also hospitalized Jauan Jennings missed time with a hip injury due to pneumonia, and Ricky Pearsall made his season debut after being shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in San Francisco in August.

That doesn’t even take into account star running back Christian McCaffrey, who has been unable to play a game this season due to Achilles tendinitis.

Tight end George Kittle’s status was also uncertain ahead of Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, but Rapoport indicated he and Samuel were expected to play.

“This could be a situation where the 49ers stick with who they are in the locker room,” Rapoport said, then added that McCaffrey is trending toward returning in November after the upcoming bye week.

Replacing Aiyuk will be difficult, but many NFL teams would love to have a group of skill position players that includes McCaffrey, Jordan Mason, Kittle and Samuel. Perhaps San Francisco will decide it can continue to advance in the NFC without sacrificing assets like draft picks that will help in the future.

Still, the team will need to turn things around after an uneven 3-4 start, especially with tough games ahead after the bye against the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions.

The 49ers can only afford so many more losses after their slow start if they are to make the NFC playoffs, which is another thing the front office will need to consider before the trade deadline.
