Ryan McDonald, one of the FBI agents who listened to phone calls between Mike Madigan and Mike McClain for nine months from 2018 to 2019, also testified Thursday at the Dirksen Federal Building.

With him on the stand, prosecutors conducted dozens of interviews. The purpose of most of them was to establish McClain’s rapport with the speaker and to ensure his assistance on a wide range of matters.

During one such meeting, McClain told a Madigan employee: “My client is a speaker. My client is not ComEd. My client is not Walgreens. My client is a speaker.”

Because Madigan does not use a cell phone, his voice will only be heard during the hearing during his conversation with McClain.

McDonald said Madigan’s investigation took place between 2014 and 2019; He has been with the FBI for over 20 years.

More than 20,000 of McClain’s conversations were recorded, he said.
