AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – Police are investigating the death of a 44-year-old woman who was found Sunday night.

Officers said they responded to an unknown emergency in the 300 block of East South Street around 11:52 p.m.

Police said they found a 44-year-old woman with apparent gunshot wounds and determined that she was unconscious and not breathing.

Authorities said officers performed CPR on the woman before she was pronounced dead at the scene.

When officers searched the area, shell casings and a parked car that had been shot at least once were found.

The investigation is ongoing as detectives work to gather more information and learn more about the woman’s death.
