Man stabbed to death outside Taylor bar • Harris and Walz to rally in Ann Arbor • 5 injured in shootings in Detroit

Both Kamala Harris and running mate Tim Walz will campaign together in Michigan on Monday to appeal to voters in the battleground state.

Vice President Harris and Minnesota Governor Walz will be accompanied by singer Maggie Rogers in Ann Arbor.

The stop is just the latest in a series of rallies and concerts designed to attract voters in battleground states. Other artists participating in “When We Vote, We Win” events include Lizzo and Beyonce.

Harris’ visit to Michigan is one of many in the last few weeks. He was the last person in the state for the early voting event in Kalamazoo over the weekend, and his visit follows several visits to the state, including last Monday’s visit with former Congresswoman Liz Cheney in Royal Oak.

His rivals, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance, also focused on Michigan during this campaign. Former President Trump spent both Friday and Saturday in the state to rally support from voters.

Vance was also in Michigan recently. He held a rally in Waterford Township on Thursday.

Family of man stabbed to death in Taylor bar mourns

“She was the sweetest, nicest person you’ll ever meet,” Tiffeny Pfeiffer said.

Pfeiffer is referring to her brother, Marcell Turner-Pongratz, who was stabbed to death outside a Taylor bar over the weekend.

He had attended a Halloween party with his friends at Big League Brews, one of his favorite bars to visit. He was attacked and killed as he was leaving just after midnight on Saturday.

Shortly after the murder, the police detained the person responsible. Although few details have been released, police said they do not believe Turner-Pongratz and the suspect knew each other.

An investigation is ongoing.

Early voting continues across the state

Although Election Day is still more than a week away, Michigan voters will now be able to cast their ballots in person.

Statewide early voting began Saturday, giving voters the opportunity to vote in person for nine days ahead of the Nov. 5 election. All municipalities must offer at least nine days of early voting, but cities have the option to allow up to 29 days of in-person early voting. In Detroit, for example, early voting began on October 19.

According to Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, more than 145,000 voters cast ballots on Saturday, October 26 alone. Nearly 100,000 more votes were cast on Sunday.

“I’m excited to see so many enthusiastic Michiganders coming across the state in record numbers to make their voices heard,” Benson said. “We’re starting a new tradition of early voting in Michigan, so we don’t just have Election Day, we have Election Days and we have options that let you decide what’s best for you.”

Early voting is new for Michiganders; It was introduced statewide for the first time this year after voters approved a measure adding it to the state constitution in 2022.

Benson is expected to provide an update Monday morning on how the entire weekend of early voting went.

Lions beat Titans 53-14

Sunday’s win over the Lions was a huge victory; Detroit defeated the Titans 53-14.

Jared Goff had just 28 yards in the first half, but the route was already set with the Lions taking a three-point lead at 35-14.

This difference increased to 53-14 at the end of the third quarter when the reserves stepped in to clean up the situation.

Goff threw three touchdown passes and David Montgomery was the first of five players to score in the first half for the Detroit Lions, who beat the Tennessee Titans 52-14 on Sunday.

The NFC North-leading Lions (6-1) have the conference’s best record after winning five straight games and are averaging over 40 points in the last four games.

Detroit had its highest-scoring game since a 55-point performance against Chicago in 1997 and scored at least 50 points for the fourth time in team history.

Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally sparked outrage with offensive and racist rhetoric

Donald Trump returned to New York on Sunday night to make his final campaign pitch, with just over a week until Election Day.

The event at Madison Square Garden featured both standout and controversial moments, as speakers and supporters packed the arena hours before Trump’s late arrival.

The rally drew criticism as several of Trump’s allies made racist remarks aimed at Vice President Kamala Harris and key voter groups.

A stand-up comedian’s comments about Puerto Rico and its diverse communities sparked immediate backlash from the Harris campaign, which is seeking support among Puerto Rican voters in swing states.

Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe said, “I don’t know if you know this, but there’s a trash island literally floating in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico,” and his comment was quickly condemned by Harris. campaign as he competes with Trump to win over Puerto Rican communities in Pennsylvania and other swing states.

Businessman Grant Cardone and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson also attacked Harris with personal insults. Trump’s friend David Rem labeled her the “Antichrist” while others made derogatory references to Harris’ Jamaican and Indian heritage.
