NEWARK, New Jersey — A Brooklyn man has admitted his involvement in a conspiracy to engage in child sex trafficking, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger.

Soauib Butcher, 30, pleaded guilty in Newark federal court to one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor. The plea was presented before U.S. District Judge Michael E. Farbiarz.

Court documents reveal that in August 2019, Butcher transported the victim by train to New York City, where he directed the victim to perform sex acts in exchange for money. A few days later, he brought the victim to Elizabeth, New Jersey, where he stayed with Butcher and a co-conspirator in a series of motel rooms from August 2019 to January 2020.

The conspirator posted online advertisements featuring the victim and, along with Butcher, arranged for customers to meet the victim at motels in exchange for money.

Butcher faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The date of sentencing was set as February 19, 2025.

The case was investigated by special agents of the FBI under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Nelson I. Delgado in Newark.
