National Railway Museum and LNER unveil track designs for competition of the future

Railway 200 celebrations will start from New Year’s Eve 2025, London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and National Railway Museum (NRM) is launching two competitions with top-notch prizes to be won.

Aimed at younger generations, children are being asked to show their ideas by drawing what they think trains, surrounding infrastructure and staff uniforms will look like in 200 years.

Competitions are divided into two age groups; 12 to 17 year olds are encouraged to draw the trains of the future, paying particular attention to the train’s exterior and interior features.

The first prize winner for children aged 12 – 17 will receive a full tour of the Azuma train, which includes a ride in the driver’s cabin of a mainline train, driving the Azuma at mainline speeds in the simulator at the LNER training facility, They and their families will also receive First Class LNER tickets.

Children aged 11 and under have been given the concept of designing uniforms that railway workers may wear in the future, including both existing roles and potential new positions that will emerge in the future of rail travel.

The winner of this award will have their design brought to life by LNER’s uniform supplier, Dimensions, and designed specifically for them to wear.

They will also receive First Class LNER tickets for themselves and their families.

As part of the competition, children will spend time thinking about how the railway and the world might develop over the next two centuries when designing.

The best designs should demonstrate possible practicality in how they can meet the needs of LNER staff or customers, communities along the ECML route and the natural world along the runway edges; You will be warmly welcomed by the selected expert team consisting of LNER and NRM members. judging panel.
