A man has been charged over a triple stabbing in which a two-year-old boy, an eight-year-old girl and a woman were stabbed at their East London home.

The 48-year-old man was arrested following the incident on First Avenue, Dagenham, at 5.35pm.

Police confirmed that all parties involved knew each other.

The victims were taken to a major trauma center for emergency treatment of stab wounds.

Police had previously announced that the injuries of the woman and the child in their 30s were life-threatening.

It was learned that both of the injured children were girls.

The person, who was detained at the scene, was transferred to the hospital on the grounds that he was “not well”.

He was later released into police custody.

“Kids are literally playing outside in the street, how unsafe it is. I look at it as a personal tragedy, but it’s so sad.”

Detective Constable Lewis Basford, who is in charge of policing in Barking and Dagenham, previously said: “This is a truly shocking attack and I would like to thank local residents for their help and patience while we deal with this incident.”
