A Five Points teenager allegedly fled authorities in a stolen vehicle before crashing into a hit-and-run crash on Charter Drive Tuesday afternoon, according to the Valley Police Department.

The 16-year-old suspect was charged with first-degree possession of stolen property. He remained at East Alabama Medical Center in Lanier and was still being treated Tuesday afternoon for injuries he sustained in the crash, authorities said.

Once released, the 16-year-old will be transported to the Valley Police Department for processing and taken to a juvenile receiving facility. Due to his age, his name has not been made public.

The driver of the second vehicle, who was slightly injured, was treated at the same hospital.

Valley police say they were called to the area of ​​Charter Drive and 20th Avenue around 2 p.m. Tuesday to investigate a hit-and-run crash. While responding, police learned that one of the vehicles was stolen. Harris County sheriff’s deputies were previously pursuing the vehicle but stopped before it crossed the Alabama state line, according to Valley police.

Harris County sheriff’s deputies were returning to their jurisdiction when they spotted the aftermath of a crash on Charter Drive, police said. The stolen vehicle collided with another vehicle. Police caught the driver of the stolen vehicle a short time later on 19th Street and identified him as the 16-year-old suspect.

The vehicle he was driving was reported stolen out of Roanoke.

In a press release, Valley police thanked the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with the ongoing investigation. No additional details were immediately released.
