“He doesn’t like any coffee except his own,” he said. “So I told him to open our own coffee shop and make whatever coffee you want.”

Jin decided to go through with it, and the couple married on Oct. 17 at 608 E. University Ave. in Champaign. He opened Hey Bobo Café at.

Wang said his first day of business was “a little slow.” However, he added that they did not advertise much about the opening, other than notifying a nearby apartment building.

When asked where the name “Hey Bobo” came from, he said that he was inspired by Jin again.

“It just occurred to my wife because we also sell bubble tea, right?” he said. “So bubble, Bobo, Hey Bobo. Sounds friendly and fun. “And our logo is actually a portrait of my wife holding bubble tea.”

Hey Bobo Café serves “authentic coffee,” milk tea and different types of toast with sweet or savory sauces, he said. They are also considering adding bubble waffles later.

Pets are welcome in the cafe, and treats are available, including a one-cent “puppy cup.”

There’s also a 15 percent discount for healthcare workers who present their badges, “as a small way to recognize the big difference you make every day.”

‘Mor Chikin’ is now in Mattoon

A new Chick-Fil-A opened its doors to customers Thursday.

Located at 1320 Fort Worth Way in The Shops at Emerald Acres, the restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with drive-thru until 10 p.m.

Chick-Fil-A officials said the business, run by local business owner Patrick Ryan, is estimated to bring about 105 jobs to Mattoon.

Ryan lives in Mattoon with his wife, Kirstin, and their three children, Rhett, Sawyer, and Harper.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to open the first Chick-fil-A restaurant in the Mattoon community,” Ryan said. “My passion is to create the same extraordinary experiences for our guests as I cherish the memories of visiting Chick-fil-A for the first time. “Our restaurant looks forward to being a place where we can make a positive impact on the lives of our team members, guests and the community.”

According to Experience Champaign-Urbana and Flyover Film Studios, many locally produced, horror movies can be watched online.

“The film scene in the Champaign-Urbana area has been active for a long time and continues to grow,” said ECU Director of Event Services and Film Mark Brown. “The tremendous talent in our region has led to increased production, economic development and job creation. “By supporting these efforts in the community, we can create an environment where this art form can thrive.”

The following films were produced locally and are available to watch online:

• “Revealer” was shot in downtown Champaign in August 2020 by director Luke Boyce. Available on Amazon.
• “Black Mold” was shot entirely in Champaign County in the spring of 2022 and was directed by John Pata. The film, available on Tubi, is scheduled to debut on the big screen this fall with a special presentation and behind-the-scenes panel, with details to be announced.
• “Brooklyn ’45” was produced by Champaign filmmakers in winter 2021 with a set designed by the Champaign art department. Available on Amazon.
• “The Curse of the Sin-Eater” was filmed in the summer of 2022 by multiple local Champaign crews and performed on-screen by Dustin Hoke and Hoke Construction. Available on Tubi, Roku and Amazon.
• “Slice” was produced by several Champaign natives in the summer of 2016 and features Chance the Rapper. Available on Amazon and Cinemax.
• “Final Summer” was produced by Champaign director John Isberg. Available on Plex, Pluto TV and Tubi.

Chipotle is open late for Halloween

For those looking for something sweet, not scary, to celebrate All Hallow’s Eve, Chipotle is offering extended hours at its Campustown location, 528 E. Green St. in Champaign. The brand said this location, along with 50 other college town restaurants across the country, will be open until 11:59 p.m. on Halloween night.

Additionally, the chain is relaunching its annual “Boorito” promotion, where Chipotle Rewards members who show up in costume on Halloween can receive $6 in-restaurant admission starting at 3 p.m. until closing at locations in the United States.

But the fantastic fun doesn’t end when the calendar turns to November. On Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Downtown Danville will be transformed into locations from the Harry Potter series.

“PotterFest” will include a scavenger hunt for which maps will be available at participating downtown stores. Those who complete the competition can bring their completed work to the Mason Temple until 19:30 and enter the prize draw.

Additionally, the Masonic Temple will host various booths, products and activities, and an information tournament will be held in the temple square at 18:00, with registration starting at 17:30.

“Be sure to stop by Hogwarts’ Danville Public Library and other downtown businesses to catch your favorite scenes from ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,'” Danville city officials said. “Treat yourself to Butterbeer at various locations on North Vermilion Street or treat yourself to a magical treat at Vermilion River Beer Company from Kayla’s Chic Treats. See if you can find Hagrid in the Forbidden Forest, visit Dementor Cove, or try your hand at Quidditch on the Danville Public Library grounds!”

Vermilion Street will be closed between West Seminary Street and just south of North Street for the event from 4 to 8:15 p.m. North Street will be closed from North Franklin Street to North Hazel Street.
