Dhanteras It is the first day of the five-day Diwali festival in India. Known as Dhantrayodashi, it is an auspicious day falling on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Ashwin. “Dhan” means wealth and “Terrace” refers to the thirteenth day and symbolizes prosperity and health.
On Dhanteras, people clean and decorate their homes and many buy gold, silver or utensils because these are believed to bring good luck and wealth. Devotees worship Lord Dhanvantari, the god of Ayurveda and health, for good health. Dhanteras also honors Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth who invites prosperity into homes and businesses.
In the evening, oil-lit diyas illuminate homes, rangoli are performed at the entrance to attract auspicious energy; Families come together to pray, exchange gifts, and commemorate health and wealth, thus making Dhanteras a festival of prosperity and happiness.

The timing of Dhanteras puja is on 29 October 2024 from 18:57 to 20:21. Pradosh kaal is from 17:55 to 20:21, vrishabha kaal is from 18:57 to 21:00, Trayodashi tithi starts at 10:31 am and ends at 13.15.

Dhanteras puja is an important ritual symbolizing wealth and health. Traditionally, it begins with a thorough cleaning of the house to create a welcoming space for Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, and Lord Dhanvantari, the god of health. This ritual cleansing is believed to invite positive energy and good luck.
To perform the puja, place a small altar in a clean area, usually in an east or northeast direction. Arrange idols or images of Lord Dhanvantari and Goddess Lakshmi along with new items purchased for Dhanteras such as gold, silver or utensils. Start by lighting a diya (oil lamp) with sesame or mustard oil, which symbolizes the elimination of negative energies. Offer fresh flowers, incense and kumkum to the gods.
A common mantra to seek Lakshmi’s blessings is “This is not a problem either. This is very important.” After the prayer, families offer sweets and prasad to the gods. A small diya is placed at the entrance of the house and near the tulsi (holy basil) plant to ward off misfortune. Finish by marking the occasion by sharing the prasad among family members. A common prayer for health, wealth and harmony in the coming year with wishes.

Dhanteras 2024 mantra

Mantra: मी मम गृहे धनं पुरय पुरय नमः” is a powerful call to attract wealth and prosperity. It combines the energies of Lord Kubera, the god of wealth, and Goddess Lakshmi (Ashta) representing different aspects of prosperity and abundance. Lakshmi) combines eight forms.

The phrase “मम गृहे धनं पुरय पुरय नमः” means “May my house be filled with wealth”. This mantra is actually a prayer asking Kubera and Ashta Lakshmi to bless the devotee’s home with prosperity, abundance and happiness, creating a life of financial stability and success. Regular chanting is believed to harmonize one’s energy with divine prosperity.
