HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — As the Houston Air show kicks off the first day of its 40th anniversary on Saturday, Ellington Airport is buzzing with activity. From historic warplanes to modern and impressive Blue Angles, it was a spectacle that organizers expected would draw the biggest crowd the event has ever seen.

Loyal viewers said it was a must-see.

“This is actually our 22nd time here,” attendee Russell Oliver said. he said.

There were also first-time visitors in the crowd.

“My ten-year-old grandson gets so excited about all the airplanes he reads about and sees on TV, and the girls get excited about everything too,” said Cynthia Franklin.

The crowd was delighted when the Re/Max skydiving team opened the show with a spectacular skydiving entrance.

“It is our honor to fly the American flag, the Texas flag and some red, white and blue pennants at the opening of the air show here, which is the 40th anniversary of the Wings over Houston air show,” said team captain Al Saylor.

Locals, this team puts the Houston Air Show on their calendar every year. They jumped out of a World War II aircraft flying at 100 miles per hour and flew a mile back to earth.

“It’s cold, there’s no muffler on the engine, it’s loud and there’s 100-mph winds, so it’s very exciting to jump out of the plane, especially when you come here and see all your friends,” Saylor said.

If you missed the Saturday show, you can watch it on Sunday. Doors open at 08.00 in the morning and the show starts at 10.30.

Tickets can be purchased from the air show website for $50 each. Children 14 and under can enter for free.

You are encouraged to park at Metro Bay, Fuqua, or El Dorado Park and Rides and take the free shuttle to the front doors to sit back, relax, and enjoy the shows.
