3 hikers rescued from Eternal Flame Trail in Chestnut Ridge Park

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were able to rescue three hikers early Saturday morning after they were lost for four hours in Orchard Park.

They first noticed the hikers were missing around 3:30 a.m. One hiker called and told officers his phone only had 2% battery, while two other hikers did not have their phones.

“The teamwork demonstrated by our dispatch and patrol units this morning was exemplary,” said Sheriff John Garcia. “They worked quickly, efficiently and diligently to assist these three individuals, taking the time into account.”

Deputies used RapidSOS to determine the marchers’ location based on cell towers. A team managed to find them and remove them from the area.

No one was injured.
