Guns and ammunition seized at Elsie Allen High School in Santa Rosa, October 24, 2024

SANTA ROSA, California – Santa Rosa police said they arrested a student at Elsie Allen High School Thursday afternoon after finding him carrying a gun and ammunition.

Authorities said a school administrator called police about a 16-year-old boy carrying a real, unregistered 9mm handgun around 1:15 p.m.

According to police, the rescue occurred while administrators were investigating gang-related graffiti found on campus that allegedly involved the same student. Authorities said they searched the student’s backpack during the discovery.

Police said school officials had already seized and secured the gun when officers arrived.

Police said the gun was found with a magazine full of 24 rounds.

“The Santa Rosa Police Department and Santa Rosa City Schools emphasize that weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited on school grounds… Ensuring the safety of students is a collective effort, and the police department and school district are committed to providing a safe environment.” the police said.

The student was booked into Santa Rosa Juvenile Facility on charges of possession of a loaded handgun on campus, possession of an unregistered handgun, and possession of a handgun by a minor.
