She added: ‘I’m conscious of being blonde because I feel like a lot of the female villains in movies are always super blonde and evil-looking. I’d like to break this trend, but honestly that’s what Barbara wants!’

Saoyse also admitted that she would be happy to pass on the role if it came down to her playing the villain in James Bond or her husband playing 007.

Speaking on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast: ‘If there is a choice between the two it has to be Bond. Isn’t it nice that I did this?’

Although Bond Girls are well-known in spy movies, the number of leading female villains is much smaller.

In 1999’s The World Is Not Enough, Sophie Marceau played Bond’s first female villain, Elektra King.

Other female villains include Grace Jones, the assassin-turned-ally May Day in 1985’s A View To A Kill, and Famke Janssen as Xenia Onatopp, who murders her victims between her muscular legs in 1995’s GoldenEye.

Saoyse hosted a BBC Radio 2 program with Scottish DJ Edith Bowman and talked about her husband Jack’s hopes of becoming 007.

Edith said that Jack would be the perfect choice for the iconic role, adding that she had been making a similar argument for years.

In response, Saoirse said: ‘I’m going to start counting how many times you’ve heard Bond on the radio.’

While discussing what her bad trait would be if she got a role in the spy series, Saoirse suggested limping.

When Edith said she had been doing this for six years, Saoirse replied: ‘It hasn’t happened yet’ and then added: ‘there’s time, there’s time’.

Saoyse also told how she and Jack, who helped produce new Orkney-based film The Outrun, believed it was important to work with people they felt comfortable with.

The Mary Queen of Scots star said: ‘When you feel safe in the company you’re in but you’re also being pushed, that’s the best environment.

‘As we get older, and certainly for me and Jack, the more we do this, the more important and actually essential it is for us to only work with people who are on the same wavelength as us and who have good intentions. and they are good at what they do.

‘That doesn’t mean you have to be the best, but you do need to be passionate about it and look out for each other because there are a lot of people out there who aren’t like that.’

Three years have passed since the release of No Time to Die, fans are eagerly awaiting the official announcement of who will replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson remains the bookmakers’ favorite at 6-4, with Henry Cavill’s odds down from 7-2 while Lowden is at 12-1.

Jack, 34, grew up in the Berwickshire village of Oxton and has made his career in films including Dunkirk and Benediction, as well as TV shows including Slow Horses and The Gold.

He and Saoirse met while starring in Mary Queen Of Scots in 2018 and got married on the weekend of July 20 this year.

Jack played the lead role as Lord Darnley, the husband of the monarch. They started dating in December 2018.

They married in a secret ceremony in Edinburgh’s Old Town in July. The four-time Oscar-nominated star and the Scottish actor tied the knot in an intimate setting just off the Royal Mile.

The private affair included a handful of friends of the couple who, along with their families, kept the wedding a secret. Marriage certificates state that Jack Andrew Lowden, 34, married Saoirse Una Ronan, 30, at the registry office at City Chambers on July 17.

US-born Saoirse and Jack, who grew up in Ireland, share a £2.5 million house in London with their dog Fran.
