Popular Seattle Mariners Content Creator Predicts Return of Season for Catcher

The Seattle Mariners offense was the most disappointing part for the club in 2024 and was the main culprit in the team missing the playoffs for the 22nd time in 23 years.

A big reason why the Mariners’ offense was lackluster was poor seasons from many players, including new acquisitions. One of those players was backup catcher Mitch Garver.

Garver signed a two-year, $23 million deal with a $12 million mutual option for 2026. Seattle A year after batting .270 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs and helping the Mariners rival the American League West’s Texas Rangers for the World Series title.

In his first year with Seattle in 2024, Garver hit .172 with 15 home runs and 51 RBIs.

Garver had a bad year by all measures. However, he will likely return to the team in 2025 if the Mariners cannot find a trade partner. They have another backup in starting catcher Cal Raleigh with prospects Harry Ford waiting in the wings.

But despite a disappointing 2024, at least one Mariners analyst/fan thinks Garver will have a rebound season in 2025.

Popular Twitter/YouTube account East Coast M’s (EastCoastMs_ on “X”) pointed out that Garver had made some adjustments from the beginning of the season compared to the end of the season. YouTube video. And he put forward some compelling arguments for a 2025 resurrected from the eighth-year slump.

East Coast M noted that Garver showed improvement in the 98 games he played before hiring coach Edgar Martinez compared to the next 16 games. Before Martinez was hired as hitting coach, Garver hit .165 with 12 home runs and had a -0.5 WAR. Over the next 16 games, Garver hit .212 with three home runs and a 0.1 WAR. His strike rate also dropped by 3.3%

These numbers are not huge improvements and are a small sample size. But it’s a good sign that Garver can turn things around.

East Coast M’s also pointed out some mechanical tweaks Garver made that could lead to the former Ranger and Minnesota Twin continuing that ascension.

In Garver’s last 16 games, his hand position was lower, leading to a quicker shot and more solid contact.

East Coast M’s also noted that Garver also struggled in his first year at Texas. Garver hit just .207 with 10 home runs and 27 RBIs in 2022. In his rookie year in Minnesota in 2017, he hit .196 with no home runs and three RBIs.

Seattle still needs to fill needed home positions this summer. This takes the highest priority. But if Garver returns and looks similar to his 2023 form, that would be a huge boost for the Mariners.
