MLS football player Holden Trent dies suddenly, aged 25 | Football

Holden Trent, who played for Philadelphia Union in MLS, passed away at the age of 25.

Philadelphia Union confirmed the death of 25-year-old goalkeeper Holden Trent.

According to Yahoo Sport, the MLS star was admitted to intensive care earlier this week, but no cause of death has been confirmed.

“The Philadelphia Union is devastated by the heartbreaking death of Holden Trent,” the club said in a short statement.

‘Although he was a great player and a fierce competitor, more importantly he was a devoted son, brother, fiancĂ©e and teammate who made those around him better.

‘He embodied the true meaning of determination, dedication and perseverance and will be greatly missed.

‘We extend our deepest condolences to his family, fiancee and friends.’

Meanwhile, Trent’s family also released a statement on the goalkeeper’s account. Instagram page.

They wrote: ‘We want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

‘Holden passed away this afternoon surrounded by family and friends.

‘Love, Holden’s Family.’

Trent joined Philadelphia two years ago in the MLS Draft out of High Point University and has made six appearances for the second team.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber said: ‘Major League Soccer joins the Philadelphia Union and our entire soccer community in mourning the tragic death of Union goalkeeper Holden Trent.

‘A young goalkeeper with a bright future, Trent has demonstrated determination and professionalism every day while contributing to the close-knit goalkeeper unit in Philadelphia.

‘We extend our deepest condolences to his fiancee, family, friends, teammates and the entire Philadelphia Union community.

‘MLS is coordinating with the club to provide players and their family members with the resources and support they need during this tragic time.’
