Carlos Sainz He continues to attract attention after a remarkable pole position in Formula 1 2024 Mexican Grand Prix. Despite this tremendous performance, questions remain about his future on the grid and whether his move to Williams was a good idea.

F1 expert Karun Chandhok expressed his surprise that Sainz was not included in a top-flight team next season, describing the situation as “surprising”. Highlighting the Spaniard’s impressive form, Chandhok focused on Sainz’s talents that potentially merit a more prestigious team on the grid.

Chandhok, in his capacity with Sky Sports F1, is baffled by the circumstances that will see Sainz at Williams next year.

Chandhok said: “He was in top form both in Austin and here. He was unlucky with the fuel leak so he had to run the race in Austin.” he said. “It’s still surprising that he won’t be in the top four teams next year. The guy is absolutely performing at the highest level at this stage.”

Carlos Sainz’s recent performances lend credence to Chandhok’s views. Sainz, who achieved pole position in the Mexican Grand Prix, evaluated his performance.

“He was very happy and it was a great few laps,” he explained, describing the near-perfect consistency that took him to the top.

“In Mexico you often feel like you can’t complete a lap and it’s extremely difficult because there is so much slippage.

“Today, obviously my two laps in the third quarter were pretty much the same, almost perfect.

“We’ve definitely done that since Austin, it looks like progress, especially from my perspective. In qualifying we’re also trying to find something extra in off-lap and tire preparation, and it looks like we’re going in the right direction.”

“Obviously I’m looking forward to getting the job done tomorrow, but at least I’ll take today’s pole because it shows progress and some really solid laps.”

“Of course our number one priority is to bring both cars home first and foremost, but especially if you win the race, the extra seven or eight points you get when you win is important for the teams.”

Sainz’s current success is inseparable from his much-publicised transfer. His move to Williams for the 2025 season comes after Ferrari won the championship seven times.
