No. 12 Notre Dame announced to the college football world that it has fully recovered from its early-season loss to Northern Illinois by brutally bombing No. 24 Navy 51-14 in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Saturday.

The classic rivalry match was held at MetLife Stadium, home of the NFL’s New York Giants and Jets. This was the 97th year, and entering the game implied the College Football Playoff.

Navy, now 6-1, will likely remain out of the playoff bubble for the rest of the season thanks to the Irish defeat. The boys from South Bend, Indiana can practically punch their ticket to the expanded 12-team format with another ranked win on their resume.

The most interesting statistic from Saturday’s game was how impressive Notre Dame’s offense was in the win.

The Irishman scored seven goals on the day (offensive and defensive). That’s something MetLife stadium residents have never been able to achieve this year.

In fact, the New York Jets have scored five goals in their three home games this year. The Giants have only scored a single goal in their four home games.

Notre Dame’s defense too caused six turnovers Saturday against Navy, something the Jets (1) and Giants (3) have also failed to accomplish this year.

The craziest part was that it was technically Navy’s home game on Saturday. So, Notre Dame walked into an NFL stadium and dominated “on the road.” For all the noise from the crowd, it could have been called Notre Dame Stadium East.

Let’s face it, it’s much harder to score touchdowns and force turnovers in the NFL, and Notre Dame was playing a Navy team that was clearly crumbling under the pressure of the bounce.
