CHICAGO – A suspect is in critical condition after a gunfight with Chicago police. West Rogers Park Authorities said the neighborhood.

The incident happened around 9:35 Saturday morning in the 2600 block of North Washtenaw Boulevard.

CPD said a 39-year-old man was walking in the area when an armed suspect approached him from behind and fired multiple shots, striking him in the shoulder.

Officers responded to the scene, and around 9:55 a.m., the suspect emerged from the alley again and began shooting at police and first responders, CPD said. There was also an armed attack on an ambulance.

According to police, the suspect continued shooting at officers from various locations for approximately two and a half minutes. After arriving in the 6800 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, officers shot the suspect multiple times.

The police helped the suspect and seized the gun used in the incident.

Suspect St. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital and remains in critical condition. The 39-year-old victim was treated at a hospital and later released, authorities said.

No injuries to officers were reported.

According to CPD, the officers involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative duties for at least 30 days as part of department protocol.
