BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Bangor Arts Exchange (BAE) hosted an item sale on Saturday.

The community is invited to browse everything from office furniture and storage containers to memorabilia, artwork, lighting and audio equipment from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Founded 7 years ago, BAE was the brain child of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and arts incubator Launchpad.

The UAE has hosted many arts and cultural events over the years, such as concerts, markets, conferences and more.

BAE announced its closure in July, citing the historic space on Exchange St. as well as a desire to capitalize on the changing arts scene in Bangor in a new way.

After providing the community with a home for the arts since 2017, organizers believed it was right to close the UAE race by giving it back to Bangor.

Renia Shterenberg, general manager of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, credits Joshua Gass, Launchpad’s general manager, for the idea of ​​selling items.

“He said, ‘Why don’t we invite the community into this community space?’ he said. There will be things we won’t take with us, and that allows people to either get a good deal or take home some of the Bangor Art Exchange,” Shterenberg explains.

Offering reasonable prices on a variety of products, Gass echoes that sentiment: “Yeah, I think it was a great opportunity for people to come here and a good way for us to get all of this in front of people. ‘It’s beneficial for another organization or person.’

What will replace BAE on Exchange St. has not yet been announced.
