Saturday’s Serie A match between Bologna and AC Milan was postponed due to heavy rain and flooding in the area.

The two clubs and Serie A organizers met on Friday to find alternative arrangements after Bologna mayor Matteo Lepore said he had ordered the match postponed.

However, no agreement could be reached and solutions such as playing the match behind closed doors in Bologna or in a neutral stadium were rejected.

The rescheduled date for the match at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara has not yet been announced.

“The match was postponed because, in an incomprehensible decision in my opinion, the mayor banned the match from being played even behind closed doors,” AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni told reporters after the meeting.

Bologna municipality said the game would bring 35,000 people near the city’s most critical area.

AC Milan will face Serie A leader Napoli on Tuesday, while Bologna will travel to Cagliari.
