Odegaard’s injury, Liverpool and more | News

Before every match at the Emirates Stadium, Martin Odegaard reveals the mood in the camp with captain’s notes published in the matchday programme.

Ahead of his meeting with Liverpool, he tells us about this week’s training atmosphere, his thoughts on Tuesday’s win and how close he might be to returning to action. Here’s a snippet:

These are the games we love to play, I’m sure you will all be very excited and we expect a great atmosphere in the stadium. There were different difficulties in our last two matches. I know that at a time when we were not playing at our best, losing against Bournemouth and then showing good character against Shakhtar, the team is determined to come out with a great performance and raise our level and reach the heights.

Everyone is excited and ready to go. We want to be at our best and we know that will be needed against Liverpool.

Of course, they have had a very strong start to the season and they are confident. We played against them in pre-season and I watched their game against Chelsea last weekend and it seems to me there are a few changes from how they played under Jurgen Klopp.

I’ve been out for a few weeks and I’m working hard to get back as soon as possible. As I said in my notes on Tuesday, I feel like it’s close to that now, but even though I haven’t been involved in the games lately, I feel like I’ve been able to utilize that time pretty well. To be honest, my days weren’t much different than before. I’m still on the training ground every day and they’re long days too. I’m usually pretty tired afterwards because I work out a lot with the great medical and fitness team we have and I spend a lot of time in the gym too. I wanted to be involved in what was going on, so I went to the preparatory meetings and was closely involved. But of course match days were different, I was traveling less, so I could spend more time at home, I could have significant rest periods, which was good.

I hope I can come out of this period fresher, stronger and ready for the rest of the season. This is the goal now, look at the positives and make good use of this time. I’m sure I’ll feel pretty good when I get back.

But it always helps to get a win and with you behind us I’m sure we can get the job done at home.
