A Florida woman accused of trapping her boyfriend in the zipper of a suitcase and leaving him to suffocate while he was trapped inside has been found guilty of murdering him.

Sarah Boone, 47, learned her fate on Friday, Oct. 26, when a jury found her guilty of second-degree murder in the death of 42-year-old Jorge Torres Jr. in February 2020. Orlando’s Guard, WFTV And WKMG report.

Torres was found dead inside a suitcase after playing what he claimed was a drunken game of hide-and-seek at their Winter Park apartment on the morning of February 24, 2020.

He claimed that at first the duo thought it was funny that he fit into the bag.

However, when her “tone of voice” changed as she spoke to him from inside the bag, she expressed fear that he would harm her, as she claimed he had done in the past. Law and Crime reports.

He captured parts of the grisly incident in two videos he recorded on his phone that night; It showed Torres begging him to let her out of the suitcase. Court TV reports.

Boone took the stand in his defense on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, and said he initially ran to the upstairs bathroom to hide in the shower. After waiting “a long time,” he said he decided to “tidy up the evening” so he could go to bed.

When she went downstairs to look for Torres, she saw him “setting himself into a suitcase”, later adding: “He was trying to flatten himself so I couldn’t see he was there.”

He later testified, “I zipped him up. We thought it was funny.”

He said that after turning his suitcase around for a while, it “knocked over”.

That’s when his account got even weirder.

She claimed that Torres had been abusive towards her before, stating that she decided this was a good time to talk openly with him because he “couldn’t get out.”

At one key point, “His tone changed, and I knew his tone, and I think we ended up arguing back and forth with each other,” Boone said.

He began videotaping his conversation with Torres, who was still inside the bag.

She can be heard begging him to let her out as she mocks him.

When he managed to get his hand out of the bag, he grabbed a baseball bat and hit his hand until he put it back in, which he expressed feared would “jump out of the bag.” news week reports.

The woman, who said she thought he could get out of the suitcase, said that she left him inside and went upstairs to sleep.

When the prosecution asked him if he did anything to help Torres get out of the suitcase, he said “No.”

He never mentioned any allegations of abuse while being questioned by police, prosecutors said.

She made more headlines when she changed lawyers nine times and asked for her hair and makeup to be professionally done for the hearing.
