The good news in the tropics continues, but conditions in the Caribbean Sea may favor the development of Tropical Storm Patty late next week.

The same cannot be said for the Eastern Pacific. Hurricane Kristy As of 11 a.m. EDT, it has weakened from a Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 150 mph to a Category 3 storm with winds of 195 mph.

AccuWeather forecasters focus on the western and central Caribbean Sea. the next tropical threat. There is a moderate chance of a tropical depression or storm forming in these waters in late October and early November.

AccuWeather Chief said, “I know there will be showers and thunderstorms in this area next week. Wind shear is the question. If we get low wind shear as we expect, I think a tropical depression or storm will form.” Live Meteorologist Bernie Rayno said.

“Tropical storms that form in this region in late October and early November tend to move toward Central America or possibly north-northeast toward Cuba, Hispaniola and the Bahamas,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.

“But a route to Florida or the southeastern mainland U.S. is out of the question this early,” and residents of the southeastern U.S., along with those in the Caribbean and Mexico, are encouraged to monitor the tropics and remain prepared.

What else is out there and how likely are they to get stronger?

As of 8 a.m., the National Hurricane Center was not tracking any tropical disturbances in the Atlantic basin, which consists of the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico.

While there’s nothing on the tropical outlook map, NHC forecasters said there are three tropical waves in the Caribbean, including:

  • Western Atlantic: Just east of the Wind Islands, there is a tropical wave lying south of 15N, with an axis near 58W and moving westward at 11 to 17 miles per hour.
  • Caribbean Sea: A tropical wave in the central Caribbean extends south of 18N with an axis near 74W. It is moving west at 18 miles per hour.
  • Near Africa: A new tropical wave emerged off the coast of Africa this morning. It extends from 08N to 19N, with the axis just east of Cape Verde. The wave is moving at 6 to 11 mph.

Who is likely to be affected?

Forecasters urge all residents to continue monitoring the tropics and always be prepared.

Hurricane Kristy in the Pacific is weakening

At 11 a.m. EDT, Hurricane Kristy was located 1,785 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California.

Maximum sustained winds are 125 mph, and the tornado is moving west-northwest at 14 mph.

Rapid weakening is expected over the next few days, and Kristy is expected to strengthen into a post-tropical cyclone on Sunday.

Effects: Waves caused by Kristy will affect parts of the west coast of the Baja California peninsula starting today and into the weekend. These waves are likely to cause life-threatening surf and disrupt existing conditions.
