My late father-in-law had a saying: “Perfection is the thief of progress.” When I hear candidates express their utopian visions for the future, I think of Merritt. We need elected officials who fight for both the ideal and the pragmatic; people who have a positive vision of the future and understand that we cannot wave a magic wand to get there.

The hard work: Listening. Acting. We get a victory here and there and always keep our eyes on the prize.

Senator Cameron Reny epitomizes this approach. He has introduced bills to improve health care and make insurance companies more accountable to Mainers. He recognizes the unaffordability of housing and has spearheaded bills that would directly address affordability. His time in the trenches of public education is an asset. It brings different groups to the table and creates consensus and momentum. A pragmatic progressive.

Let’s send Senator Cameron Reny back to Augusta on November 5th.
