Two teenagers charged with assault after fight outside Montreal high school

One person was hospitalized and three others were injured after a group of teenagers fought near a Montreal high school Thursday afternoon.

Montreal police said four teenagers were stabbed in a fight that started around 1 p.m. in an alley on Villeray Street in the Saint-Michel neighborhood near John F. Kennedy High School.

An Urgences-Santé spokesman said only one person was transported to hospital with a hand injury. Their lives are not in danger.

Police announced that 3 other injured people were identified after the fight. Two of them also sought medical help.

JFK High School has reopened since the incident. The nearby adult education center has also since reopened.

A student at the high school said that while he was standing outside, he saw a group of teenagers, who he said were from a different high school nearby, come and attack a teenager.

He said that the group beat the young man and one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the hand. The student said that the wound was deep but the young man is fine now.

Two 16-year-olds were arrested in connection with the incident on Thursday afternoon. They appeared in youth court on Friday.

One of them pleaded not guilty to three counts of assault with a weapon, one count of aggravated assault and one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The other teenager pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon. He will remain in custody until his sentence is given.

Quebec public safety minister François Bonnardel released a statement saying he found it “extremely saddening to see young people in such a situation.”

“Violence is never the solution,” he said.
