MONTGOMERY, Ala.(WSFA) – Deanne Allegro is no stranger to food.

“My day job is as a professor of nutrition at Auburn University in Montgomery,” Allegro said. “I always loved food and the idea of ​​playing with food.”

Three years ago, he decided to add something more to his plate and open his own restaurant. He found the perfect place and attended every estate sale and antique sale he could find. Now perennial It is open for business and adds a new flavor to the River Region.

“Overall, I wanted to be a place that was fun to come to. You have some experience with food, but also with friendship.”

Most of the ingredients in the kitchen come from here in Alabama.

“We are talking to different farmers and learning what is available. “It just didn’t make sense to me why we would go so far to get the products we need when there are people in our society who have families and are trying to do this to make a living.”

The menu changes depending on the week.

“We have a plant-forward focus, with lots of options for vegetarians, but also options for people who love meat.”

If you want a drink, they have wine and beer on tap, as well as specialty drinks using liquors produced right here in Alabama. A place with its unique menu, good drinks and an atmosphere that takes you to distant lands. But it also has its roots right here in Alabama.
