“In most months, they give incentives to all cleaning workers. Recently, a cleaning worker had an accident and the company made sure that this person received medical attention. The worker could not work for a few days, but the company still paid his wages. “It is unfair to make such a demand when they are doing such things,” Anbalagan said .

Council members expressed support for his comments and continued to discuss other civic issues. Councilor Rex said that street lights in areas like Periyar Nagar were not working properly. Councilor Ambikapathi also raised a similar issue on Pudukkottai Road in front of the international airport. Thereupon, the mayor said, “There are 3,521 old street lights that need to be replaced. The company replaced approximately 500 of them, and the rest will be replaced soon.”

90 resolutions adopted

Considering the 90 resolutions tabled during the session, the council discussed the first resolution detailing the status of projects undertaken in Panjappur. As per the decision, IBT in Panjappur will be known as ‘Muthamizharignar Dr Kalaignar M Karunanidhi Integrated Bus Terminal’ and the nearby truck terminal will be known as ‘Perarignar Anna Truck Terminal’.

In the decision, it was stated that the company had completed 93 percent of the work at the IBT and truck terminal. Welcoming the move, AIADMK councilor Ambikapathi suggested that the corporation should also consider naming some important buildings after former party leader and former CM MG Ramachandran. Besides the first, other resolutions were adopted, mostly dealing with minor civil affairs.
