GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — Local students took a lesson in election history and security at the Grand Rapids Public Museum (GRPM).

The Community Archives and Research Center holds approximately 250,000 election artifacts, including old ballots and voting machines. It can be found in the same building as the GRPM School.

Dale Robertson, the museum’s president, says equipment has changed over time, but safe voting has always been emphasized.

“Being able to participate and vote is more accessible than ever. All the safety precautions are provided through our county clerk, and we have our local town, city and county clerks,” Robertson says. “So all the elements are in place to get people to participate and get out and vote because it’s more accessible and open now than it’s ever been in my lifetime.”
