Missouri Highway Patrol investigating officer-involved shooting in Camden County

CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) announced it is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Camdenton early Friday, Oct. 25, at the request of Camden County law enforcement.

According to a preliminary investigation by MSHP, the Camdenton Police Department and Camden County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) were called to 95 Third Avenue in Camdenton at 2:30 a.m. in reference to a body reported deceased at the residence.

When law enforcement arrived at the residence, they observed 28-year-old Matthew MacDonald armed with a rifle as he left the residence. MSHP said a Camden County deputy fired his gun, hitting MacDonald after MacDonald failed to comply with deputies’ commands to drop the firearm.

MacDonald was taken into custody. He was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital via emergency room for further medical treatment. No one else was injured in the incident, and law enforcement determined that there were no bodies at the scene as initially reported.

Criminal investigators with MSHP’s Drug and Crime Control Division are investigating the shooting. Once the investigation is complete, reports will be sent to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
