The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office on Friday released the cause of death of a woman who died at a Wells Fargo office in Tempe in mid-August.

Denise Prudhomme, 60, entered the Wells Fargo corporate office near Priest Drive and Washington Street at 7 a.m. Aug. 16 but never made it out, records show.

The medical examiner’s report stated that Prudhomme suffered sudden cardiac death due to a wound to his heart muscles, but the cause of the scar was not detailed.

“Wells Fargo monitors our every move and keystroke using remote electronic technologies to supposedly assess our productivity and will fire us if we find we are not pressing enough keys on our computers, but Denise remained undetected at her desk for four days. A death that went unnoticed through electronic surveillance is contradictory,” the union said in a statement. “The nature of its work sheds light on the reality of what it means to be a worker at Wells Fargo.”

Prudhomme’s death also prompted a call for improved safety measures to reduce stress for employees.

“The solution is not more monitoring, but ensuring we are all connected to a supportive work environment rather than warehoused in a back office,” the union statement said.
