Bowie police officer indicted on attempted murder charges

BOWIE, Maryland — The Prince George’s County Prosecutor’s Office announced that a Bowie police officer was charged with attempted murder on Thursday.

According to authorities, Sgt. Robert Warrington, a 12-year veteran of the City of Bowie Police Department, pulled over to help a stranded motorist on Cottington Road on Sept. 12.

After crossing the median and having a brief conversation with a passing man, Warrington took aim at him and fired his gun.

Although the man was not hit, a passing vehicle was hit.

Warrington faces one count of attempted second-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault, two counts of reckless endangerment and one count of misconduct in office.

“We are pleased with this indictment and feel it is fair given the circumstances, and we applaud Chief Dwayne Preston and the entire Bowie City Police Department for their transparency during this investigation,” said State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy.
