A former Anglican vicar has pleaded guilty to rape and gross indecency with a child under 14.

Ifor Whittaker, 80, was a vicar named Father Colin Pritchard at St John the Baptist Church in Sedlescombe, East Sussex, at the time of the crimes.

Sussex Police said the offenses were reported to have been committed in the late 1990s.

Whittaker admitted the charges at Hove Crown Court and was remanded in custody.

He will be sentenced on November 12.
