After the bar closed, Doe and Hegseth had an argument outside the hotel pool, and Doe berated Hegseth for being loud and combative, according to the report. A staff member reported that the hotel had received numerous complaints about a couple fighting by the pool around 1:30 a.m. When Hegseth tried to talk to them, they “began swearing” and complained that he had “freedom of speech,” according to the report. The report states that Doe announced that they were Republicans and apologized to the staff for Hegseth’s behavior. Staff believed Hegseth was very drunk, but Hegseth denied this in his interview with police, insisting instead that he was “buzzing.”

After the pool, Doe said her memory became blurry. He had been drinking and believed someone had slipped something into his drink, according to the report. The next thing she remembered, she told police, was being in an unknown room where Hegseth grabbed her phone and used his body to block the door to the exit when she tried to leave. “Too much,” he told police, but the next moment he was on a bed or couch with Hegseth on top of him. His dog tags were “hanging over his face,” he recalled. According to her recollections, the man ejaculated on her belly, threw a towel at her, and told Doe to “clean up.”

He didn’t remember how he got back to his room that night. In his second interview with the police, he explained that he had been having nightmares and memory loss since that night. Another person told police Doe would “cry secretly” and “cry out of the blue.”
