Investigation into tribal women torture case

Balangir: Police are continuing their investigation into the gruesome incident in which a 20-year-old tribal woman was allegedly tortured and forced to consume human excreta by a villager following a dispute over agricultural land at Jurabandh village within Bangomunda police limits of Balangir district in November. 16. Accused Abhaya Bag (30) fled the village after committing the crime and remains at large.
Gouranga Charan Sahu said, “This is an extremely sensitive case and we are treating the matter with utmost seriousness. The investigation is ongoing and all possible efforts are being made to nab the accused. We are confident that he will be caught soon.” – divisional police officer (SDPO), Kantabanji. Sahu added that two special police teams have been deployed to investigate the case with additional support from cybercrime experts to trace the fugitive.
According to sources, police detained several people linked to the defendant for questioning. Information obtained during interrogations reportedly provided important clues as to his potential whereabouts.
Rajya Sabha member Niranjan Bisi took notice of the incident and demanded strict action against the perpetrator. Meanwhile, several tribal organizations have warned of protests if the accused is not arrested immediately.
