James Bond theme music guitarist Vic Flick dies at 87

Guitarist Vic Flick, known for playing the guitar riff in the James Bond theme tune, has died.

The musician known for playing the guitar riff in the James Bond theme song has died.

Vic Flick, lead guitarist on the famous track, is said to have been paid £6 to remix and record Monty Norman’s theme tune for the first James Bond film, Dr No.

Flick’s son, Kevin, announced on social media that his father had died at the age of 87 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Surrey in 1937, Flick has worked with the likes of The Beatles, Tom Jones, the Bee Gees, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Cliff Richard throughout his career.

The famous theme song was recorded in 1962.

Flick played the riff on a 1939 British Clifford Essex Paragon Deluxe guitar plugged into a Fender Vibrolux amplifier.

The guitar was displayed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio, United States.

Vic Flick has performed on many 007 soundtracks throughout his career

Composer Monty Norman died in 2022 at the age of 94.

He said he knew it had the famous theme tune. Captured the essence of 007 after changing the main riff from sitar to electric guitar.

“Her sexiness, her mystery, her fierceness; it’s all there in a few notes,” he said.

Flick also received a lifetime achievement award from the National Guitar Museum in 2013, calling him “one of the world’s greatest guitarists.”

“We were proud of our association with him. “We will miss him,” a spokesman said.

Flick also performed on many other 007 soundtracks, including the theme to Shirley Bassey’s 1964 film Goldfinger.

He is survived by his wife Judith, his son Kevin and a grandchild.
