India drops 2 places but remains in top 10 on climate change: Report

India remained in the top 10 of a list of 63 countries evaluated for their efforts to combat climate change, despite falling two places from a year ago, thanks to its low per capita emissions and rapid expansion of renewable energy sources, a report published Wednesday said. was stated.

The Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI 2025), published by think tanks Germanwatch, New Climate Institute and Climate Action Network International, monitors the progress of the world’s top emitting countries in terms of emissions, renewable energy sources and climate policy.

The 63 countries assessed in the CCPI, together with the European Union, are responsible for 90 percent of global emissions.

India remains among the top performers, ranking 10th in this year’s CCPI.

However, the CCPI report noted that significant changes to India’s climate policy were unlikely. The growth-oriented approach to climate action is expected to continue or intensify due to increasing energy demand from industry and a growing population.

The report leaves the top three spots blank because no country performed well enough to receive a “very high” rating overall in all index categories.
