Manor ISD Superintendent Robert Sormani told parents the district needed to move forward and took responsibility for the incident.

Dr. “We lost a student on my watch, there’s no other way to say it and it makes me sick to my stomach and it makes me sick every time I have to say it,” Sormani said.

“All I know is that I feel like I have to focus on this every day, and all I can do is work to make things better, and that’s exactly what I intend to do for as long as I’m allowed to be here,” he added.

“The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority, and we hear the concerns expressed by parents at last night’s board meeting. We share the community’s deep commitment to providing a safer environment on all of our campuses.

In response to last month’s tragedy, we took immediate and proactive steps to increase security measures on our high school campuses. These steps include increasing law enforcement presence, limiting entry points to better control campus access, and implementing the use of hand-held metal detection wands as part of the student entry process. In addition, in order to ensure the security of our schools, all our students are subjected to searches both at the entrance and throughout the day. We are also in the process of working closely with our community through surveys and community meetings to determine next steps and shape the future of what security will look like across all of our campuses.

This partnership with our families and stakeholders is critical as we continue to adjust our security measures to meet the needs of our students, staff, and families. “We are committed to doing everything we can to provide a safe and supportive environment, and we appreciate and encourage community involvement on this important issue.”
