80-year-old woman died after being hit by a vehicle in Peru

An 80-year-old woman died after being hit by a vehicle in Peru on Monday evening.

At approximately 5 p.m., troopers from the Indiana State Police Peru Reservation and deputies with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a pedestrian struck on Wabash Road east of Paw Paw Pike.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Ford Focus, driven by James Sturgill, 53, of Wabash, was traveling eastbound on Wabash Road when it struck a pedestrian, identified as Beverly Bowen, 80, of Peru.

Despite life-saving measures, Bowen was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The family of the person who lost his life was informed. Sturgill did not suffer any injuries.

The above information is preliminary information and the investigation is ongoing. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash at this time. However, toxicology results are awaited.

Peru Fire Department, Duke’s EMS, Miami County EMA and the Miami County Coroner also assisted at the scene.
