FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A home invasion in Pee Dee turned deadly Monday night.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1900 block of Vox Highway in the Johnsonville area for a shooting around 10 p.m. Deputies found a person with a gunshot wound and emergency services took them to the hospital, where he died.

Witnesses told deputies that the deceased broke into someone’s home and threatened to shoot them, according to the sheriff’s office.

“When the suspect pointed a gun at the victim, the victim shot the suspect multiple times,” a news release from the sheriff’s office said. A sheriff’s office spokesman later added that the suspect broke into the home.

The sheriff’s office said the fatal shooting remains under investigation, but charges are not expected in the case.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released.
