Local author TJ Buck has somehow focused all of his novels on crime, and this time he focuses on crime in a small town.

Buck’s ninth novel, “Mud Lake,” will be published on November 15. According to Douglas Osgood’s review of the book, the book contains many crime story elements such as good cops, bad cops, love, murder and the salvation of a priest. Western short story writer. Buck said he wanted to focus on a small town for this novel.

“I wanted to set this in a small town that relies on tourism,” Buck said. “So I set it in a fictional version of Bemus Point, but changed some things in the story. “My last few novels have been set in cities, and I wanted to explore the small town and what a serial killer could do to a place like that.”

This is Buck’s second novel this year, and although he says he usually only writes one a year, after coming up with the idea, Buck now felt the need to write this one, too. The main character, Father Joe, is based on his previous novels, and Buck added that the other main character is an adult film star and wanted to explore the two main characters as polar opposites as they move into the small town and get involved. in murder.

“I try to explore different aspects of crime in each of my novels,” Buck said. “I look at the victims, their families, their whereabouts rather than the actual criminal. You know, when it comes to serial killers, everyone knows Ted Bundy but not the names of his victims. “In this novel, I focused on the town in general rather than the killer.”

Buck added that he always adds a different twist to each book to challenge himself and generate new ideas. He said that he already had an idea in his mind for his next book, but he liked to sit with these ideas in his mind for a few months before starting to write, and his next book would probably come after “Mud Lake”. out sometime next year.

“I can sit on an idea for months before I write it,” Buck said. “I like knowing the ending in advance, so I have something to write about.”

All of Buck’s books are available in both e-book and paperback format on Amazon and at the Good Neighbor Bookstore in Lakewood. Future events for “Mud Lake” include an interview with WRAF radio and a book signing at Good Neighbor Bookstore sometime after the book’s Nov. 15 release.
