Bryce Young has a chance to remain the Carolina Panthers’ starting quarterback after taking the job back from the injured Andy Dalton, according to NFL Network. Ian Rapoport.

panthers listed Dalton is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.

Three-time Pro Bowler sprained His right thumb was injured in a car accident on Tuesday. Rapoport reported that the injury could keep Dalton sidelined through Week 9, when Carolina hosts the New Orleans Saints.

Head coach Dave Canales had initially benched Young after a poor start to the season. The 2023 No. 1 overall pick was 31-of-56 for 245 yards and three interceptions through two weeks.

This demotion left many wondering if the young quarterback’s long-term future with the Panthers was in doubt.

It didn’t help that Dalton had 319 passing yards and three touchdowns in Week 3 as Carolina beat the Las Vegas Raiders 36-22.

Even if Dalton wasn’t injured, another QB change might have been inevitable as his performance has dipped since that strong performance. In a 40-7 Week 7 loss to the Washington Commanders, he threw for 93 yards on 16 attempts and two interceptions.

While Young is once again leading the offense, Sunday’s game may not be the best indicator of his progress.

The Broncos are allowing the fifth-fewest passing yards per game (170.7) and are seventh in opponent passer rating (81.0). Meanwhile, Carolina is without lead receiver Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen.
