We have a stunning Sunday ahead, with dangerously high winds to start the work week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – High pressure continues to move further east today, but overall we are still surrounded by this pressure system. This will allow for mostly clear skies throughout the day and winds with a mild component from the south, which will help temperatures rise into the lower 70s this afternoon.

Overall, it’s going to be a great day out, especially for a tailgate football dinner right before the game at 3:25 this afternoon.

Unfortunately, a major storm system continues to rapidly develop out west and will provide much stronger winds on Monday and Tuesday.

We’re still confident of winds from the south of 35 mph to 45 mph as Monday temperatures rise dramatically. The morning commute should see wind gusts of up to 30 mph by 9 a.m., with gusts of 30 mph to 35 mph expected by noon as temperatures move into the lower to mid-70s. As the afternoon moves into the final buzzer for the kids, temperatures should drop into the low 80s and top winds should range from 35 mph to 45 mph.

Winds will taper off overnight, with gusts more likely around 30 mph continuing into Tuesday morning and commute hours. Winds of 45 to 50 miles per hour are expected to enter the region between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Temperatures will stay in the lower 80s.

Wet weather is still continuing out west to this point, but we begin to develop showers and potentially a few isolated storms across our western counties on Wednesday morning. New information this morning brought a serious risk to the region, including the metro. Currently, we are seeing significant amounts of upwelling and potential energy in the atmosphere, along with plenty of instability. The risk of severe weather will increase Wednesday afternoon and early evening. We will most likely see large hail and strong winds that will force storms. There is also a tornado threat, but we expect it to be very isolated with the highest potential for tornadoes developing slightly further south of the viewing area. This doesn’t mean we won’t have an opportunity for tornado development, so please continue to update us on KCTV5.

Storm activity is expected to exit the area by 5 a.m. Thursday for the entire monitoring area. Halloween morning is expected to be in the upper 30s and I’m happy to report that winds will likely look less aggressive than previously forecast. 5 mph winds are now more likely to turn into 15 mph winds throughout the day and into the evening. Temperatures rise above 50 degrees in the afternoon, with evening temperatures expected to range between 47° and 54°. A slightly better forecast than lower 40s and upper 30s.
