(KSTP) — A woman was found dead Sunday night in a Red Wing home where police negotiated with a gunman for hours, authorities said.

According to the Red Wing Police Department, officers initially responded to the 1000 block of Putnam Avenue to a report of a suicidal man with a gun.

A neighbor who spoke to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS said that the situation started around 17:00 in the evening and ended approximately 3 and a half hours later when the police detained the suspect.

After the man surrendered to the police, the police searched the house and found a dead woman inside. The circumstances of his death remain unclear.

While the police were collecting evidence at the scene, the police asked the public to stay away from the area.
